Looking at that list, I see Preston and Liverpool central, and a few others in the North West.
Back in the late 90s I was on a short working holiday and stayed in Preston close to the railway station.
Its a busy junction and back then it was pleasant, probably because it was so busy.
One of my ...

Re: Cape Town Station
I've attached a few of the construction (reduced a bit to conserve Friends of the rail bandwidth) being undertaken at present on Cape Town station. They were taken over the last 2 Saturdays, I was visiting in the Southern suburbs from the far Northern suburbs and I often take the train to catch up ...

Re: Metros in the Northern Suburbs
Safety on trains has always been a controversial issue. The Saturday Malmesbury train makes a trip from Malmesbury to Cape Town in the morning and then around one pm or so makes the return journey. Most of the smiling faces pictured would be unwinding on a Saturday journey home. Often, stocked with ...

Re: Metros in the Northern Suburbs
Hi Stefan, most of those pictures were taken from the footbridge above Stikland station. The security all seemed to be standing on the opposite Cape town bound platform. On my weekend train rides I use Bellville or Brackenfell (either side of Stikland). Brackenfell has a nice footbridge where you ...

Re: Oosterzee - Bellville Metro action
Travelled in Set X a few times. On her last trip on a Saturday - about 3pm or so, she departs from her normal route and goes past Bellvile to Brackenfell where I get off, and continues towards Kraaifontein. And she rests on sundays as the Cape Town to Bellville line does not see metro traffic on a ...

Re: Argus cycle tour and a metro
About 25 years ago that particular section of track was actually subject to the few derailments we ever used to have on the Cape Metro system. Not sure what was done but the derailments stopped; possibly a different type of sleeper was eventually used. Trains would go as far as Fish Hoek and buses ...

Re: Glencairn Station
Brings back many childhood memories, I would hop off the platform (on the left of the picture) and walk on and over the railway line to the beach.

Re: CPT to PLZ Premier Classe train launching 5 Dec 2008
This is one particular spoornet initiative which I have been following with interest.
The train was initially scheduled to leave on the 5th dec 2008, then it was postponed to the 12th dec.
I recall coming into Cape Town on the metro rail on Sat the 13th and there was a full premier classe set ...
