Re: China Railway eyes $30 billion SA rail project

Steve and others I have posted an extract from an internal PRASA newsletter about the visit with photos at http://www.friendsoftherail.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=316&t=7525 but I know this is the wrong place and I am sure that it will be moved shortly.

My biggist fear is that the new trains will ...

PRASA participates in state visit to China

Not sure where to place this but I am sure the admins will move to correct place. This is a continuation of the News article of http://www.friendsoftherail.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=108&t=7469 but no images can be posted there so here has to do for now.

This is an extract of the newsletter that ...

VariouArmoured Railcar: Refurbished Armoured Casper on Rails

See my previous post Mad Metro
On my visit to the Braamfontein Training Centre I popped my head into the shed where I saw the armoured rail units before and was pleasantly surprised to find the Casper refurbished. I asked someone and they said that they think that it was done for the WC2010.
The ...

Re: High speed rail for Free State!

More viable to have a link from Bloem to JHB. Think about all those Free States needing to catch an international flight. Will help with daily business trips to Jozi and make it safer. Can even make it link directly to the Gautrain.

Shosholoza or Premier trains to see the Portugal-Brazil

Shosholoza Mey and Premier Classe are offering trains from Johannesburg to Durban for the Portugal-Brazil soccer game on the 25 June. No accomodation needed as you'll sleep on the trains there and back. The rates seem very good. http://tinyurl.com/284pfoz

The new Nasrec slipway

I am not sure that this is the right place for this question. Yesterday I went on the TBE to the launch of the revamped Nasrec Station. While taking the new Nasric slipway on the bend there was tremendous scrapping noise and the train slowed down to a crawl while negotiating the bend. I am assuming ...

Re: SA in for serious trouble

I'm a contractor at Metrorail and I can't go on strike but I feel for the real workers of the railways. What many employees feel is that many managers are just concerned about themselves and their careers than the actual business. The offer is ONLY 5% with a 3% extra for those who are going to lose ...

Re: SA in for serious trouble

The Salary Negotiations that took almost two months between UTATU and SATAWU vs PRASA (mother company) of Metrorail and Shosholoza Meyl has reached a deadlock on 6 May 2010. As a result of this deadlock a certificate of non resolution was issued by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and ...

Re: SA in for serious trouble

I heard some time ago about the pending strike but it wasn’t for public consumption so I couldn’t post it. But on Thursday SMS was sent to stop all monthly ticket sales without the reason why which got tongues wagging. But soon the cat was out of the bag and management was battering down the ...
