Re: UK High-speed rail: Time to make tracks

London to Newcastle now is about three hours which compares well in my opinion to getting the plane. Which when you take into account getting on the plane security baggage checks is not much quicker.

Just how fast do we want or need to get from A to B? What we need to be doing is forgetting about ...

Gabor,

Has the stones headlight been modified? It looks like it has a different light source than the standard 14” bulb?

Re: SAR locos in 7.25" gauge

Just got to hope my bum will be small enough to fit in the tender. There must be some more 7.25 gauge stuff out there, far better building a nice 3 or 4 coupled engine. Than another 0-4-0, 0-6-0 tank engine that’s as big as a small car but to me is not that interesting or technically taxing either ...

Re: Train Mountain

Gabor,

Spent my last day today riding behind UP 4-8-4, 828 Dean and Randy Chase owner and driver respectively just love to ride. They are on the rail all day, at about 3 in the afternoon they picked up extra cars to make up a 27+ car train. Randy picked up the rake and just hammered it up the 2.6 ...

Train Mountain

As a bit of an antidote to bashing innocent pieces of metal into bits of a 25NC I am at Train Mountain this week, at their triennial event.

Although not as busy as the other ones I have been to, apparently $3 a gallon for “gas” is expensive! Still it’s a great week with always something new ...

Cannon boxes

More of a test to see if I could add a snap to the site. The photograph shows the part machined cannon boxes for my 7.25 gauge 25NC the boxes are about 50% done and follow the same construction method I used for the front truck boxes.

Bogies in 7.25 gauge

Anyone selling bogies in 7.25 gauge suitable for late steam era SAR freight cars? That could be rough castings, patterns for sale, can get cast, RTR, or any permutation. Or do you know a likely source I could chase up?

Re: 6229 streamlining

I agree streamlining is a bit of an acquired taste but you got to take your hat off to the workmanship. All them compound curves must have been a nightmare to reproduce.

I see in this months Australian Model Engineer there's a 15F and a nearly finished 16E both in 5"gauge in the for sale section.
