Grahamstown Station: petition to Transnet

Post by Steve Appleton »

Grahamstown Station yard and buildings are 142 years old. However neglect and vandalism are destroying this irreplaceable piece of SA's railway history. A petition addressed to Transnet has been raised in an attempt to protect this declared heritage site. More info here: http://www.heritageportal.co.za/notice/ ... ur-station
You can help by signing the petition on that page.

Meanwhile the sole surviving GDA locomotive continues to disintegrate outside the station. This should go to George where it could be cosmetically restored to a point and later on cladding etc could be added.

There is some progress on saving this heritage station building.
Some great shots from Andrew Whitfield. Scaffolding is up and work is progressing well. Wonderful to see!
