3117 on Tshwane Explorer

Post by Chris Janisch »

Newly restored 15F 3117, the most handsome beast in the land, is captured just south of Bon Accord on her second Tshwane Explorer trip. Driven by Frik Boshoff and expertly hand-fired by Nathan B and pilot Whitey, she is seen passing the Bokomo factory as viewed from the N4 bridge. The loco steamed and performed beautifully.
I believe the mechanical stoker was only used at the end as the footplate crew had had enough fun! But this proves that with teamwork and care steam locos are king.

So is that what we look like!! Great pic. By the way, that mill has two fenced off disused sections of track to the right of the loco. Why not try get hold of those Mill people and see if they will donate?

Good point Nathan. I noticed that one track has been shortened considerably by relocating the stop block well down the track. The remainer of that track beyond it is steel-sleepered and now has no final stop block: perfect for us!
