"Boon" to his Friends

Post by Tom Macrery »

Stefan's Christmas cards reminded me that I had similar pictures of the old Spoornet days. JNC Boonzaaier, 'Boon' to his friends, which was most of us, was the owner, manager, runner, organizer, guide, and general solver-of-problems of Bushveld Train Safaris for over 10 years. He was, and is, a walking encyclopedia of everything railway in Southern Africa. Unfortunately he was forced out of business in 2006 due to circumstance beyond his control. He photographed and then painted many classic railway scenes. He published a Steam Calendar for 1996 with reproductions of 13 of his works. Several years later I was lucky enough to be given a copy of the now out-of-date calendar while on one of his safaris. Here are two of his works.

I have a similar Calender of the Red Devil painted by Boons. Gems like these are collectors items. Treasurers never to be repeated.
