Re: Longest station name in the world
And here's some information: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogery-chwyrndrobwyll-llantisiliogogogoch The translation: The Church of Mary in a white hollow by a hazel tree near a rapid whirlpool by the church of St. Tisilio by a red cave
But someone commenting on a website says it is even slightly longer: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogery-chwrndrobwll-llandysilio (rhosllaw) yogofgoch (the extra bit)
With the extra bit meaning: near the floor (or ground) of the red cave.
It’s a train station on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. Also note that ‘llan’ must mean ‘church’.
And I found a photo of the station on the web.

Re: Longest station name in the world
Somewhere in my archives I also have a picture of the station, with the nameplate.
"Train station" - that's a term from US English. In Britain we say "railway station", although nowadays that is changing and one sees "train station" used increasingly in the media, much to the disgust of railway enthusiasts.

Found it! This picture was taken in a different era to the one posted above by Tom. In fact it might be the very same nameboard which is/was in the Clapham Museum and is depicted in the link in the first post above.
