Vereeniging station
While coming back from Sanstone last year, we made a quick stop over at Vereeniging station to catch the East London train south bound.

Jamesie!
May I correct you please?
This station is not Vereeninging, but rather Viljoensdrift!
It's the first station out of Vereeninging, on the Free State side of the provincial boarder, on the Vereeninging – Kroonstad double main-line section!
Unconfirmed report that I have received is that the remaining semaphore stations and signals are scheduled to be removed from March 2010, and probably replaced with CTC, controlled from Sasolburg.

Re: Vereeniging station
Here in the Cape they also want to get rid of the semaphores, but they first have to get the current installations working like they should be before trying to extend the system.
There is probably so little traffic on that line that he need for signals is not there anymore. They want to increase the amount of traffic carried, but when the amount of traffic increases, where are those trains going to cross if all crossing places and stations have been demolished? And more importantly, where is the traffic going to come from if all the stations have been demolished? The railways can't make a living out of carring minerals and mealies alone.
