Spark!
Hi all, i have tried to get this right quite a few times with no luck until Monday morning...

Well done Fanie. I have been trying for ages to capture this spark. Just outside Rondebosch there is one of these change overs where you are guarrenteed a good spark, but never captured a decent one like that.

Wonderful if it's a panto that causes the spark, but if it has been friend's head then you don't find this spark as pretty!

Loop at Firgrove has one. Around 2001 the 5E1 broke down following such a spark! It need to be shunted clear by anothe loco. Oh ja 5E1 was shunting coaches for a special.

Wouldn't be able to shunt a feather today, all those wonderfull locomotives are now nothing more than a toilet today, 3E actually looks the best of them all...

Great job catching that spark. Its got to hurt down below though, I wonder how do they protect the locos internally against sparks like that, where are all our electric bright sparks??

A spark like this usually occurs when a locomotive enters a neutral section, and is perfectly normal. The locomotives are designed with arcing in mind, and the sparks do not affect them in any way.Derek Walker wrote:Great job catching that spark.
