Coach 14 231 in Kroonstad Depot
Hello,
When I travelled by train (Algoa) from PE to Durban in 1995, I had a longer stop at Kroonstad where I visited the depot.
Beneath some photos of electric, diesel and steam locomotives I took also a picture of this coach.
By the way, for what was the car behind the coach? I didn't take a photo of it.

This could be part of the old Kroonstad Breakdown train. The rear coach looks like a caboose.

Wow... what a classic coach. Would have loved to have seen her in her heyday.
Not quite on the rails.

That was 1995. I hope that 14 231 is still in the same condition.

Thank you for your replies.
@ Dylan: I'm sorry I can't say if it was a caboose on the other end.
@ all: I'm glad that you like the photo.
For three weeks will this be my last posting, because I leave tomorrow for holiday, which I will spend in South Africa.

Hi Everyone
As someone who appreciates coaches this is a great picture.
Coach 14231 is originally a C-25 built in 1942 ,Salt River converted to a D-32 in 2/77 and went into NRE service 6/84.
I got a list of NRE which although not up to date indicates that the coach still exists.
As to the other caboose see this link for further details.

FOTR has one of these caboose-like vehicles. It's not in particularly good external condition but it isn't in danger of being destroyed. It's currently used to store super-heater elements.

Bit more info on this coach - it was built at Salt River workshops in 1942 as a type C-25 first class sleeping coach numbered 8323. The C-25 series coaches were built between 1933 and 1956 and numbered 264 in total. In February 1977 it was rebuilt into a type D-32 (1st/2nd compo sleeping coach), but was removed from revenue-earning service in June 1984, to become departmental coach 14231.

@ Carlos: Thanks for the compliment and the other infos about that coach.
When I was in Robertson I took some photos of coaches which stands nearby the station there. I also took photos of coaches of the " Gospel Train " which is now a "church" and is situated between Robertson and Worcester nearby the station Vink. When I'm at home again, I will upload some pictures.
