Re: Laingsburg Bridge
Luca, this sub-forum doesn't allow attachments - you have to go to the photo gallery section for that - here.
Allan, you seem to have found a way round it by posting your photos as a link within the post rather than as an attachment.
I think this is acceptable (technical wizards Steve and Kevin may have more to say). The main reason for having a separate photo section was so that those with slow internet connections (which still includes many of our members who have more than one foot still in the steam age and only a toe or two in the cyber age!) don't have to sit and wait too long for discussion threads to load. I'm guessing that your method doesn't increase the size of the post and thus it doesn't make for long download times. However there is an argument for posting all photos in the photo gallery simply because that's where people might expect to look for them.

I see Allan is cunning!

The other reason is that they get archived and in many year to come may be a good historical resource.
Plus it causes confusion - as in this case. So I have moved the post to the right place......

Re: Laingsburg Bridge
Thanks, Kevin. I've moved one other post too.
Luca, you should now be able to post your photo as an attachment to this thread.

Thanks!
Heregoes. Sorry Alan, but I like this one SOOO much more, just because there's no wires :)
Who says a condenser can only make pitch black smoke?

Re: Laingsburg Bridge
Jip, the remains are of the old CGR structure on the right. The Buffels "river" was usually dry as a bone but in 1980 it came down with such fury that half the town was wiped out with huge loss of life. Most of the houses nestling inside the curve of the railway were washed away as was the railway embankment either side of the bridge which miraculously stood its ground. This was the flood which put paid to the Ladismith branch.

Sorry john I thought I was posting in the photo section, must check next time before posting. Not so cunning to link to a photo just use the options above when posting. I copy and paste the link, then select it and click on the option "img" and your image appears in your posting.
Great picture Luca much better angle, mine was taken from a moving train so I could not choose where i stood :-)
