Shosholoza Meyl in Worcester

Post by Andreas Umnus »

Like I already announced, here are now the pictures of the Shosholoza Meyl in Worcester.
All pictures are taken on 31.10.2009.
@ Craig: You were right with the 6E1 locos.

Also the video of this train is now online. It has a duration of about 6 minutes and you can see it here:

This is the hardly to decipher number of the second loco.

Excellent video Andreas. That 6E1 hooter catches everyone especially if you are standing in front of the Loco's I notice there was no Dining Car just a kitchen car. Do you know where this train was coming from. Joburg or Easlt London? What day of the week was this shot on. Can you remember?

Wonder if the aircon was working as many windows are open.

It was a Saturday and it seems that it was the train from Jo'burg. Here are the timetable: Train travel in South Africa

Yes, the hooter - that was really loud and I didn't really expect it.
And I don't know if the aircon was working.

But can anyone decipher the number of the second loco?

Difficult to see. I have never seen that 6E1 before. Looks like the driver was sick over the edge.

There is no aircon on the shosholoza Meyl except in the dining car.
Is this the sitter class? I have only seen that baggage carriage on the sitter class.

Aircon is on all new re-built sets. At the moment its only on the rebuilt sitter sets and the Premier classe. The tourist class trains do not have them yet.

One tip, if you look on the roof, you will see that the air-vents have been removed, except at the end which is directly above the toilet. The end of the train has a modified coach which has the power generators inside.

The one side, you can see the exhaust in the cut-out roof section.
