The crew of 6E 1149 changes the train

Post by Andreas Umnus »

I travelled with the Trans-Karoo in 1995 from Jo’burg to Cape Town. In Kimberly I stayed one night and when I travelled further the next evening from Kimberly at 21:00 it was almost dark.
Early the next morning our train became slow and when I watched out of the window, I saw that there was in front of us a siding where I could see a locomotive.

Here you see the signal and on the other track an orange loco. That was early that morning. Maybe it was earlier than 6:05 which was the departing time for Leeu-Gamka or later but before we reached Prince Albert Road (Departing time 6:43). Or it was still later.

All locos stand next to the others. You can see that a person is leaving the 6E 1149.

The action became more. You can recognize a second loco and that it is a freight train in the siding. The personal of the two trains are changing now.

Shortly after this intermezzo both trains continued their journey.
