Blue Train in Cape Town

Post by Andreas Umnus »

When I was in Cape Town I also visited the station there to take some pictures of the Blue Train.
This series of pictures are the only one I took there in 1995.

The first one is a little bit dark because it was taken in the hall of the station.
E1955 is the leading loco of the Blue Train that day. The train still awaits its departure time.

I asked if I may stand here for a photo. The Blue Train is leaving Cape Town. The destination was Pretoria.

The cars of the Blue Train. All of them are really clean.

The last two waggons of the Blue Train were waggons for cars.

When the train was gone I walked slowly back the platform and almost the worker at the beginning of the platform had closed the gate. I was just in time to leave the platform through that gate.

Look how clean and shining the Loco's were then. The Blue train does not carry car coaches anymore.

That blue locos is MUCH prettier than the current purple. Why they had to remove those Cape Town | Kaapstad signs beats me, it looks like they were just hacked down in the late 90's for no reason and never replaced
