A nice poster of Butlin's Holiday Camp at Clackton-on-Sea.

This camp opened in 1938 and lasted until 1983!!!!

The Butlion Holiday Camps were a phenomina of the inter-war years. The standards of living had improved dramatically over this period and most families had some spare cash.

Annual holidays started therefore to become more common - and Butlin's Camps were aimed at tapping this market. Interestingly enough the camps were forerunners of the Hotel Med Resourts etc of today - they offered the visitor everything for the holiday on one site - from shopping to accomadation to entertainment......
