I always gag at the lack of decent headlights on UK locos. I know that, in the early days, electric headlight technology had not been developed and they had to do without them. However, in today's environment it seems to me that the lack of decent head-lighting should be a major safety issue. How does the driver see any problems ahead without lights? Do UK rail drivers get a "carrot allowance"? Or are they kept in the dark?
