Snowdon Mountain Railway October 20 2010

Post by Ian Roberts »

On Wednesday 20th October my wife and I climbed mount Snowdon from the West Side.
Leaving the summit we passed Snowdon Mountain Railway Rack loco No 3 "Wyddfa" in charge of the 1330 departure from Llanberis.
The loco was built in 1895 by Swiss Locomotive and Manufacturing Co, Winterhur Switzerland works No. 925, but how much original remains after 115 years service is unknown.
The steam locos are only used when all the diesels are already in service and this was the only steamer in service that day.
Just after the phot was taken snow flurries started and it was time to come down before the clouds descended on the summit.
