UK: David Rodgers: No 6023 King Edward II, 2011.03.30

Yesterday, 30 March 2011, marked a major milestone in the return to steam of GWR King Class loco No. 6023 King Edward II. This loco had been withdrawn in 1962 and languished for many years in Barry scrapyard where its rear set of driving wheels were cut through with an oxy-acetalene torch. Finally after a very long restoration project No. 6023 was returned to steam for the first time in 50 years yesterday. The loco is painted in the early BR blue livery (replaced by dark green in the early 50s).
