The apparent sacking of the Indian quangos RITES, IRCON, and their RICON joint venture on the Beira system, may result in some YDM-4's shipped back to India
If anyone has been in Moz in the last few years, and has taken locomotive photos, especially shots of broad-gauge ALCo's on Cape gauge bogies, could they please drop me an email. There is a small group trying to compile a listing of Indian motive power in southern Africa, and we are trying to ascertain exactly how many units were supplied, and the numbering.
From travellers sightings and reports, anecdotal information, Indian Government documentation, and photo analysis, it would appear that the following units are leased or hired
Maputo (CFM)
12 YDM-4
One new build (DLW Varanasi) ALCo 3000HP prototype
Beira (CCFB)
12 YDM-4
plus IRCON construction locomotives supplied to the RICON JV
3 YDM-4
Possibly a repowered broad-gauge (2300HP) WDM-7 on fabricated Cape gauge bogies This may be the below unit moving between systems, but Indian Press reports indicate that 2 may have been built.
Nacala (CDN)
6 YDM-4
Repowered broad-gauge (2300HP) WDM-7 on fabricated Cape gauge bogies (Golden Rock prototype)
Photos indicate that the Maputo based units are red/white, balance blue/white
Any assistance appreciated

Re: Mozambique motive power
Receives from a friend, the same could not say for sure the origin, type locomotives were GT26 no transportation of coal to Riversdale in Mozambique.
Vale took some DDM45 EMD, these do not seem to have adapted the way and EMD GT26, built by the Macosa - Spain and Villares - Brazil, they are in the operation.
