This YouTube video was posted on Railroad.Net on 11th August 2012 with no mention of the location, date or loco number. The YouTube caption, posted on 4th July 2012, simply says, "Steam train leaving the station and it caused the field of dry grass to burn but i stopped recording so i could get out of there, you will see people about to run at the end". Someone on Railroad.Net has asked for details.
Any of our South African aficionados able to furnish the details?
Identify a loco and location from video?

Re: Identify a loco and location from video?
The clip starts with a Rovos Rail train arriving in the station. The steam loco is 12AR 1535 from the Reefsteamers stable and although the clip doesn't show the fire starting is must have been started from the loco slipping while getting the train moving.
As a Durbanite I can't shed any light on the location.. Magaliesburg would be a guess.

Thanks, Brendon. I'll pass that message on. Anybody else able to confirm whether it is Magaliesburg or not?

It is definitely Magaliesburg and 1535, but by the same token, the grass there is horribly dry and that in itself is a problem, it could also be that the train was stopped past the level crossing and RS staff then fought the fire. Unfortunately I just see people running and no real fire. It would be inteesting to get Reefsteamers take on this incident.
Not quite on the rails.
