Cameroon railway query

Post by John Ashworth »

From the East_African_Steam Yahoo group
Mark wrote:In May I'll be travelling to Cameroon on the hunt for MLW diesel locomotives and I'm aware these work the daily (hopefully?!) Yaounde - N'gaoundere overnight train but has anyone visited the country recently or can provide further details / share experiences on Camrail? Although the MLWs are my main focus I'm keen to read up on anything Camrail related as so little info is out there!
If anyone can help, you can reply directly to the Yahoo group, or post your reply here and I will pass it on to him.

There's already been one reply on the Yahoo group:
I was there last year in March, but haven't written up a report yet... one good place to start even though it's a bit outdated would be http://www.trainweb.org/railphot/Camrail_E.html . Since then they've been getting a few more new diesels from NREC, but otherwise nothing much had changed until our visit, except that you couldn't get a photo permit anymore.
