Sadly John has now left us - but his presence will remain on this FOrum (the wonders of technology) and we will also be seeing him in the future as the bug bites him.
Chris J reports...
On the first of November a little group got together, and after a Savanna toast, John was presented with a photographic collage. Various posed shots were taken around the 15F and Funkey. A brief enjoyable hour in the company of Nathan, Chris J, John D, Frik Boshoff and Spikkels- and now John has sadly left our shores...

Wonders of technology indeed - I'm viewing these pcitures in Nairobi en route to Sudan. Once I get my satellite internet connection set up in southern Sudan I'll be able to visit (and administer/moderate) the FOTR forum on a regular basis. Until that time it will be occasional trips to a rather slow internet cafe.
Thanks to the lads for the little farewell presentation, and the bring and braai the previous Sunday when I fired 2650 on a Tshwane Xplorer. I do plan to come back and do a firing turn whenever I can make it.

Thanks, Philip. Is it really seven years since I was posted back from South Africa to Sudan and South Sudan? Isn't it terrible when work gets in the way of one's railway activities? Fortunately I have managed to get back to South Africa two or three times a year to do a firing turn. Hopefully the next one will be September, with a delegation from the Kenya steam team.
