- Metro Faces. The glass fibre modifications to this motor coach set give the Metro units a very streamlined look. On the left is the old familiar face before cosmetics stepped in. Pretoria North station

It has an English look.
Welcome Nathan, by the way, to the Electric Converts Club! I think everyone is a bit of a closet EMU person - they just find it hard to admit....!

I have in my hands a MetroRail Pretoria, timetable booklet from 2002 and on the front and back covers is a photo of said motor coach (one of)

Also there is a photo of another motor coach. It has 3 windows on the front face, the 2 standard windows, and a rather large window in the centre. Under the centre window is the word 'Jacaranda' with a picture of a jacaranda tree.

Can you maybe scan that picture (with the jakarandas on the train)? Isn't this the train I'm refering to at viewtopic.php?f=144&t=1516?

As it turns out the motor coach with the Jacarandas painted on the front is auctually the driver training set

See my recent picture at http://www.friendsoftherail.com/phpBB2/ ... 144&t=1742
This unit has sliding doors, incidentally, unlike the blue driver training unit that Hennie photographed in Koedespoort. If I recall it is a two (or three?) car train including its own electric motor car, unlike the blue one which has an electric loco attached.

This is a 10M2 set. These sets along with the 10M1 and other prototypes lead to the 10M3 / 10M4 design. Which lead to the current 10M5 design.
I can not tell from the picture if this is a UCW build or a Transwerk one. A number of the 10M2 sets have been updated and the cab replaced with the new 10M5 cab.

Thanks, Craig, for the information. And welcome - your first post to the FOTR forum.
We're seeing a lot of these new Metro sets around Gauteng now, and there are a lot more in Koedespoort being upgraded.
