DMU's Interurban Passenger Transport Service Commences on the Lobito-Benguela Railway
The interurban passenger transport service between the cities of Benguela and Lobito has officially begun on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. The launch of this service follows the completion of necessary station elevation works and the installation of fixed ramps to facilitate passenger access to the automatic doors of these modern trains, similar to those in Luanda. Referred to as DMU’s (Diesel Multiple Units), each train consists of four vehicles with a total capacity of 696 passengers. This includes 190 seated and 506 standing passengers. The trains are capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour, significantly reducing the travel distance of just over 30 kilometres between Benguela and Lobito to approximately 30 minutes...
