Rovos Rail - on shed

Photos of Rovos Rail! Photos should be 800x600 pixels, maximum size 130K. Very good ones will be moved to the Online Gallery, the rest will be pruned away after 14 days to conserve space. If you have photos of FOTR Engines and Stock, please post them in the FOTR Gallery in the Friends of the Rail Forum above.

Stripped and descaled and primed. The bare body of 25NC 3480 stands at the new loco depot area of Rovos Rail. This was the original 15M shop with wheel drop etc, in steam days

n the old 15M workshop at Capital Park shed, now used by Rovos Rail as a loco depot, we see 3440 awaiting her turn to be restored.

Looking forlornly through the window, we see a sick Dolly that wants to go out and play with her sister, whose handrails we see in the foreground!! However, it is but a mere reflection of herself!

Once a hive of activity as locomotives came in for wheel drops and 15M overhauls, the rear area of the Capital Park depot was where all this took place. When steam ended, it was abandoned, vandalised, later rented to a woodworking company, and finally stood deserted for a longer period. Then the resurrection took place, and today this is the new loco depot area for Rovos Rail. Seen here is 3442 and on the far left is the almost ready 3533.

"It's 5 pm on a Monday, and the regular NC shuffles in..", Billy Joel once sang. At rest and being admired by passengers prior to boarding the train, the locomotive on duty will stand posing alongside the Rovos platform, while the clock slowly ticks and the sun slowly sets. AAAh!

And the gentle hum of the dynamo, the siss of steam, and the soft glow of cab lighting, falling softly on the array of cab controls and gauges, creates a perfect setting for the night shift. Awaiting her next move, the engine stands, simmering away. 25NC 3442.
