MetroBlitz Coaches

Post by Barend Botha »

A while back there was a discussion about the MetroBlitz:

For those interested there are a few MetroBlitz coaches at the Kodoespoort workshops behind the Diesel Depot along Bluegum Street. The coaches are behind a fence in thick grass but are still visible from the street.

Interesting - we usually only see the burned out ones next to the main line in Koedespoort Station.

hello all

I found it interesting to see pics of these coaches. I remember travelling in the Metroblitz whilst I lived in JHB.
can the member who took the pics tell me how many coaches are in that siding.
I have a NRE list showing two in NRE service, one only wonders what for? and the museum list had one earmarked for presevation.

thanks for your time

Hello, I should have counted them but haven't thought about it till later but I would guess there were 2 coaches. Could you please tell me what lists you are referring to and were are they from?

Greetings, Barend.

We tried to get one for preservation at the club, but they cannot be moved, as their air bag suspension has collapsed and theyare not safe for movement. They will most likely have to be cut where they stand.

Here are the five which are standing next to the main line at Koedespoort Station, taken from the footplate of 2650 today.
