Subject: Friends of the Rail: Cape Town to Bulawayo Railway
Dear Sir/Madam
My Great Grandfather, Peter Aldous, travelled out from the UK in October
1896 to work on the building of the Cape Town to Bulawayo Railway - I
believe he was a senior engineer. My mother is very proud of this
'adventure' but only has sketchy memories of his time there together with
the original map that he used and the timetable from the inaugural journey.
I would dearly like to find out more about his time there and to see if
there are records of his presence. My mother has been in poor health
recently and any info I can track down would give her a welcome boost.
Is this something that your society could assist with or could you pass me
on to someone who can?
Many thanks
