Juba threatens to pull out of Lamu Port project

There is growing unease within South Sudan diplomatic circles in Nairobi. This is over what a high ranking official here describes as Kenya’s slow pace in putting up a second port in Lamu.

“If the speed with which the Kenya Government is constructing Lamu port and doing the railway does not change dramatically, we will seriously consider going to Djibouti or Tanga, even though these alternative routes might be a little bit longer”...

Lamu project on course, Kenya tells South Sudan

THE row over the pace at which the Lamu port project is being implemented has drawn the attention of the project manager who allayed fears that its implementation would take a little longer...

an officer in charge of the Lamu Port and Lamu Southern Sudan-Ethiopia Transport Corridor working for the Kenya ports authority said that the project was on good course and within the time frame...

S. Sudan denies it plans to abandon Lamu port project

South Sudan has disputed reports claiming it may abandon the plan to develop a crude oil pipeline between its oil fields and the port of Lamu in neighbouring Kenya...

“It is geared towards development. In this project, there is the construction of highways, tourist cities, a pipeline [South Sudan-Kenya pipeline], the port, an airfield and railway lines connecting the two countries”...
