Sudan, Ethiopia Complete Bilateral Agreement On Planned Cross-Border Railway
Ethiopia and Sudan have finalised a bilateral agreement to develop a railway line from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia to Khartoum in Sudan and on to Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast. The proposed railway, one of a number of bilateral agreements completed by the two countries, will be built to the 1435mm standard gauge, the African Development Bank reports. The agreed route will see the line run from the Ethiopian capital to Awash, Kombolcha, Weldiya, Wereta, Gonder, Metema, Galabat, Gadarif, Kassala Haiya and Port Sudan.
