19D & GMAM banked by 15F near Riekeels

The shortage of motive power during the bush war period in [then] Rhodesia meant
many a surplus locomotive was sent to alleviate this problem. A number of
GMAM garrats were sent Northwards. These garrats were overhauled at Capital
Park depot, and then hauled dead to Mafeking via Hercules/Magaliesburg.
The load being rather heavy for the 19D meant that a shunt loco had to
give banking assistance to get over the neck at Riekerts halt. The column of
smoke in the rear is from a 15F, who pushed until the camera position,
before returning to her duties at Hercules 2 yard, under the watchful eye
of the PPC cement towers.
Today, the line remains closed to traffic, and the chimneys of PPC now gaze
down upon the new steam site for Friends Of The Rail.
