Elgin Station 6

Post by Marius Avenant »

The best left for last. The platforms are remarkably clean, so are the rails - obviously the line is still being used as opposed to the Franschhoek line.
There is an opensided shed across from the station building - well it is fenced in, so one cannot just "dwaal" in there.

And there parked in all their glory, are no less than 5 inspection trolleys!! But what the heck is the one at the back. It looks like a cross between a Hi-Ace and one of those old Humped-back Volvo's on steroids.

I wanted to get a closer look, but got a call and had to skedaddle to Stellenbosch in a hurry. Oh and also in that shed, not quite visible is a 7 or 9-lever "rack" I believe you call it. (Don't knock me for wrong terminology - I never used the stuff, just try to find it after it disappeared) It seems to just sit there with no purpose at all.

I wouldlike to know where one can get the OK to go in and photograph those trolleys. Any ideas?

Glad you like the place. I have the keys so just shout next time you are there and will gladly open the shed.

The "rack" is a mechanical lever frame identical to the one that was in the station building.
