A classic station still retaining all the old architectural features from years gone by. Part of the charm of the London Underground is the fact that the old stations with their features have as far as possible been preserved....
Notice the uncovered portion at the far end - there was purposely no canopy here to allow the smoke from the engines used to escape. The early tube trains were pulled by steam engines for many years!!!!

Re: UK - Tube - Nottinghill Gate
A pedantic correction, Kevin. Tube trains were never pulled by steam; underground trains were. The early underground tunnels were built by the "cut and cover" method, and it was in these tunnels that the steam trains worked. The term "tube" strictly speaking only refers to the later deep tunnels which were always electric. In popular usage "tube" has come to refer to the whole system, but purists still make the distinction.

Can see you are getting bored John!
I actually bought a nice history of the Tube/Underground Railway (!) when I was there - a paperback by Christian Wolmer. Will put something in the review section as I am nearly finished.
