Hi Graham
I see in your first photo some open windows. I also noted from your previous photos posted on Face Book that you took one from an open window. The set we traveled in, the window were locked because of the Aircon. On our up journey the Aircon stopped working during the night and only came on in Klerksdorp. Without any open windows it was very stuffy. This was in November 2007.Did your set have aircon in the passenger coaches?

I seem to remember that last time I travelled on Premier Classe the windows were locked and you needed a funny shaped key (different from a normal coach key) to open them, but that my trusty Leatherman performed the function admirably!

When I did my last trip in March 2008 from Jo'burg to Cape Town all the windows were locked, bar one or two on the corridor side that the train manager unlocked for the benefit of enthusiasts on board.

I was expecting the same for this trip but was pleasantly surprised to find that the windows on both sides were able to be opened. Oh yes, there was aircon in the sleeper coaches on both trips.
