More electrics in the Northern Cape

Post by Jez Smith »

Hi all,
First pic is of a pair of Class 7Es on Beaconsfield depot. I love the 7Es as I used to drive 25kv ac locos in the UK, before switching to 3rd rail.
Next is a pic of class 6E1 no. E1406 and Class 18E no. 18-131, showing the modified end (number 1 cab, I believe). I'm returning to Kimberley in January 2010, and I am looking forward to the possibility of seeing a few purple ones on the Shosholoza Meyl, and who knows? Maybe a few 7Es or 10Es will have been painted in the new TFR livery by then, although personally, I think nothing beats SAR/SAS maroon with yellow chevrons!
Sorry for the increase in 6E1 pics, but I feel these are the last classic South African locomotive, displaying a style that has gradually evolved from the Class 4Es.
On another note, does anybody know what became of the class 5E1s that were recently put up for sale by TFR?

Thanks again for looking,
Jez Smith, Liverpool
