10E Unit Train

Post by Kevin Wilson-Smith »

2 10E's stand near Balfor as a unit train is made up.

The lead unit is in very good condition, and was also very clean and well looked after. Ditto the second unit, although the paintwork was a bit worn.

For those unfamiliar with these locos, the 10E's were the most powerful 3,000 volt DC electric locos in the world on 1 metre gauge. They are Co-Co locos and weree designed for heavy freight operations.

Both locos are 10E's (as oppossed to 10E1"s) - the first loco is the sixth of its class (10-006) and the second the twenty fourth (10-024). Both came into service in 1985.
