Capital Park locos, 1985.

Post by Steve Appleton »

Posted on behalf of the photographer, Dennis Mitchell:
In 1984, whilst preparing the '85 tour there were still about 50 locos on the shunt roster at Capital Park. But when we got there the dreaded diseasels had taken over except for the Blue Train shunt and the Vaalwater branch.
Pic 1. Class 15CA No 2854 "Pretoria" with the Koomatiport passenger-mail or the International L.M. train No 1.
Pic 2. Class 19D No 2749, the "Blue Bull" (shining light in the doom and gloom) and a class 24 (no 3647?) at Capital Park.
Pic 3. Locos that had a fire in their bellies until recently wait for the scrappers torch and, judging by the ominous wagons near the water columns, that day is not far away!! Locos visible are a class 19D, a 15F and a GMA.
Pic 4. Class 15CA No 2854 is under a partially dismantled roof. Another unidentified loco is in the next road.
