REGM and WRCM, Mine locos, 1975

Post by Steve Appleton »

Posted for the photographer, Dennis Mitchell:
Pic 1. This is (after deep consultation with John Middleton) class 15BR, No 1975, as Rand Estates Gold Mine, No 1 on 6 November 1974. It was destined to have a short life, after it had a head-on with one of the tanks later that same month, and R.E.G.M. No 8 then became No 1 (class 15BR, No 1990). It appears that R.E.G.M., through head-ons, managed to send quite a few locos to an early grave!!

Pic 2. One of those curiousities that sometimes springs up, particularly when you didn't know it existed! This is West Rand Consolidated Mines steeple-cab electric No 6, one of 9(?) electrics running on, I think, 20" [1'8"] track in October 1974. What ever became of it?
