Matjiesfontein part 3

Post by fanie kleynhans »

Here are a few pics I took of the station, museum and different signals at night, the nice thing of being out there in the middle of no where is one can take shots like these without having to look over your shoulder for bad guys! What is those small signals called, dwarf signal?

Looks like its raining stars. Your second last photo is very clever. You should not have told us, it would have developed great discussion. I assume you used a tripod. Otherwise you must be James Bond.

Alan check the prices. They are not cheap. For a family you looking at a R1.000 a night just Bed and Breakfast. You can get a B&B elsewhere for or half that. We stayed in a stunning B&B in Beaufort West for R450.00 per night for the four of us including Breakfast. It is however stunning to stay at Matjies. When we went there (wife & I) we would always get the front rooms. Its so peaceful there and suddenly you hear the whine of 6E's and the rumble coming down the track.

Stefan yes I used a tripod and a shutter release cable on all the night shots to avoid camera shake.

Allan its a great place to go visit but Stefan is correct about it being pricey, at least the train trip was only R240 return which I dont think is that much.

Jez I still have a few that I want to submit to rp but if you dont see some of these on there you must know what they think of it!

There are different accommodation options in the village complex. The Hotels Balcony rooms are the most expensive. Will do the trip next year by train and carry on to Kimberley a few days later. Will also do lots of walking like Fanie. Should be fun.
