A little-known working but highly significant. Steam in Maritzburg ended abruptly due to a serious drought and water restrictions in 1983.
This loco belonged to driver Eddie Edwards and was really clean. She was transferred to Germiston and saw use there for a few years, before being withdrawn in the late eighties. She had a distinctive paint job on her tender, I have some pics of her in Germiston yard. And now one of her numberplates adorns my lounge wall!

Scanned this old colour print.
2051 in the yard at Germiston, winter 1986.
Saw her first in 1984 at Elansdfontein as I came past on the train from Graaff Reinet, then she looked stunning.
She was withdrawn in 1987 I think.

Strange how that "voorkom swart rook - avoid black smoke" Sign is still part of Germiston yard afer all these years, safely behind Reefsteamer's electric fence. I should paint those letters again...
