Train ferrying goods derails at Nairobi slum

A train ferrying wheat and marble from Mombasa to Kampala derailed early yesterday at Mukuru kwa Njenga slums in Nairobi.

The officer in charge of Lunga Lunga Administration Police camp, Inspector Alphonce Mulinge, said the train derailed at around 3am.

Inspector Mulinge said no injuries were reported during the incident.

The inspector led police officers to guard the goods, but before their arrival, scores of looters had a field day helping themselves to the spilt wheat.

Parts of the railway line were damaged by the wagons. Police will launch an investigation into the cause of the accident.
