Railways Africa On September 26, 2011 In Rwanda
The governments of Tanzania and Rwanda have agreed to closely monitor and speed up processes so as to start construction of the new railway between the two countries.
Rwandan minister for foreign affairs Ms Louise Mushikiwabo told The Citizen (published in Dar es Salaam) that the two countries have committed themselves to ensuring that the construction work starts in mid 2012 and be completed within five years as scheduled.
The line linking Dar es Salaam to Kigali is expected to cost at least $US5.3 billion. The agreement was among the outcomes of a meeting between Ms Mushikiwabo and her Tanzanian counterpart, Bernard Membe.
