This is a 10M4, as one can not see the number or the equipment clearly. It will either be a Siemens build (UCW) series 1 or the cheaper series 2 with no Siemens equipment. The original 10m4 was built with a large cab window (the area that is black in the picture) but due to thugs on the Soweto line braking the window while the train is in motion. The cab windows have been replaced with a smaller window and a metal grill.

Craig - thank you. Interesting.

They appear to be refurbing coaches and there now a whole of (current) variations on the coaches - saw a consist the other day with 3 different styles of refurb coaches - although the differences are minor and mainly relating to window shapes and pattern. Did not have a camera with me.
