Four tenders floated for Kenya railway upgrade

Upgrade of the railway line is about to start with the government floating an international tender for construction of safety structures and relocation units to accommodate residents of Kibera and Mukuru slums, who will be affected. The four tenders advertised last week will see construction of thousands of residential units and stalls on both sides of the railway line in the two slums. "Due to already existing human occupation in the areas where construction work is proposed, the work will be done in phases... and proceed upon relocation of people to the completed sections of the works," [said] the advertisement by Kenya Railways Corporation in yesterday's dailies.
