At either end of Hermanstad loop, a yellow painted box containing spare scotches has been conveniently mounted. Should any problems arise, this will alleviate hunting for elusive squashed scotches!

Here is a series of photos depicting the newly fitted boxes for the scotches.

Another idea is to give your Scotch blocks a quick coat of bright yellow paint as well! The yellow paint makes them more visible to the eye and will lessens the chance of them not being seen when conducting a walk around, prior to moving rollingstock. We use cheap line marking paint in a pressure pack and give each block a quick re-coat every 24 months or so, as they will faid and become dirty.

Cheers
Rob

Thanks, Rob. I am impressed that your scotch blocks last 24 months - most of ours get squashed before they reach that grand old age! We do normally paint them yellow, but this is a new batch introduced after the Rovos Rail crash - everybody is making extra efforts now to ensure that stationary rolling stock remains stationary.

The yellow boxes, incidentally, appear to be old fire extinguisher boxes repainted from red to yellow.
