Chas Rickwood of Zimbabwe has managed to make contact recently with Andrew Schanknecht who replied as follows:

"I am pleased to hear that an interest is being taken in our Garratt.
About a year ago I had it moved under cover at our locomotive workshops at Nkana, Kitwe.

At least two, and possibly all, of these photos were taken a good deal later than the early 1970's as suggested.

It is suggested in previous posts that this is a 4M trailer. According to John Middleton's "Railways of Southern Africa Locomotive Guide" the 4Ms date from 1955, whilst Geoff Pethick, on this forum, states it was originally a type U-37-CM dating from 1937 (motor or trailer car?). I'm afraid ...
