Back to South Africa

Colleagues,

I may get back to South Africa in April / May (for the business again...), but this time not in Jo'Burg but in Capetown.

What is to do in Capetown for a railfan? In particular, are there steam trains (I heard something about one going to Simon's Town, and also about Rovos?), good ...

Mass drawing of class 24 + FOTR coaches

Colleagues,

For a personal project, do you know where I could find a mass drawing (with at least the main dimensions) of "Jo-Anna" and of the different types of coaches used in the Cullinan trains?

Much thanks in advance!

There is something similar in Braunschweig (Germany): The restaurant "Kegelbahnhof". See the pics on my website:

Re: Hermanstad: Help wanted to identify rolling stock

Thanks Steve, that'exactly the infos I needed!

So, everything is identified, with exception of the 24 (or at least I suppose she's a 24, as she looks very similar to "Jo-Anna"). I d'dn't find anything about ot on the SANRASM, and also nothing about a number 3366. Anybody knows perhaps more...?

Hermanstad: Help wanted to identify rolling stock

Colleagues,

I was last sunday on the trip to Cullinan, and before and after the trip I shoot some pictures of the engines standing there. Now, I would need the numbers of these engines:

Here, the number is clear (15080), but which ...

Re: Train photography and criminality in Johannesburg

Now I already had my first experiences here: I'm here since tuesday, and as expected I had very good opportunities to shoot great pictures of the Gautrain, at the workshops of Midrand and during test runs in the night, including travelling in the cabin (I'll place my best pics soon on my website ...

Re: Electric Steam!

One of these 2 engines still exists (If I don't mistake, it's one of the E 3/3s of the Sursee-Triengen railway), but has been reconverted as coal-burner and has no particular differences to a "normal" E 3/3

Confirmation: in 1964, Nr 8522 has been sold to the Sursee-Triengen Railway ST as E 3/3 ...

Re: Wooden loco could be the world's oldest toy train

Antiques expert Paul Atterbury, who could barely contain his excitement, said the train, which may have been made by a father for his son in the 1820s or 1830s, was worth anything from £20 to £5,000.

Very accurate estimation! ;-D

Self-propelled diesel freight - here

(Sorry for the VERY late answer, but as I just joined the forum today...)

This is no longer a self-propelled diesel train. This was a prototype "CargoSprinter" of the german railways DB, who didn't give satisfaction. This has been sold to Switzerland, the one ...
