The term "Sorter" was used for the leader of the four guys working under a Checker in the Goodsheds, there was allso a "Chief Sorter", alltough it was never noticed any of them wearing these.

In the days when all trains had a guard, he use to keep a trip journal, this was used to calculate there time and overtime for pay purposes, and was kept for three years if I remember correctly, after that it was compiled by the driver of trains running without a guard.

It is not in Pretoria, it is infront of Johannesburg Station. The one that The late Minister of Transport Honorable B.J.Schoeman was a Fireman on in the Braamfontein Yard. If not mistaken it is a class 16B no. 805.
