Re: Odd diesels pulling ROVOS

Those are normal SAR GE Class 34 Diesels, simply "photo-shopped" Rovos green. The loco in front has a white stripe along its side which means it's actually a SAR Maroon and Yellow Diesel, the second a Spoornet Blue Diesel due to its numbers painted on the side...

The windows at the "back"end of the locos remain the same one on the one side. The other side has been closed up and is used as the toilet.

Re: Class 34 ?? in Johannesburg 1987

That is indeed a GE Class 34. You can recognize this as a 34 due to the sloped sides of the extended roof piece. The 35's are square. Also not all the Class 34's have them.

Re: Rovos Rail 5E1

The more I look at this livery the more it doesn't work... What is with the red cow guard?

Regarding the flag I think that: the side facing the(the triangle side) flagpole should point to the front of the vehicle, creating the illusion that it is waving with the wind.

Re: Dam Rail: still no apparent progress

Yesterday while paging through an old SA Rail and Harbours magazine I found a photo of a FotR train pictured on this line which I found very interesting. That made me wonder about the following:

...Friends of the Rail who would have provided regular steam train excursions from Pretoria ...

Re: Lima trainset catalogue

I bought a Lima Class 34 for around R800 with shipping on eBay in 2007. Round about 2-3 weeks ago a maroon and yellow 34 sold for $190 and a blue train 34 sold for $290... Crazy stuff...

Re: Rovos 5E1's 1114 1123 1127

Thanks Jez, I also thought they would be of the older rounded cab series locos, but still, it is excellent to a few of these in private use. They will apparently be painted Rovos green like the steam locos and coaches.
