PNQ 83 Class Diesel Electric Locomotives

Hi All!

Thought I'd share some pictures of Pacific National's 83 Class EMD Diesel Electric Locomotives. These loco's work on Queensland's narrow gauge (1067 mm) network. They are used mainly on bulk mineral duties, but do find their way onto the occasional intermodal train.

There are currently 33 ...

This YouTube clip was filmed in Toowoomba during the flash flood. Gives you some idea of its power when you see these cars picked up and washed away.

Re: Australian floods

That would be Toowoomba in South East Queensland and was the result of flash flooding. All the railway lines radiating out of the Toowoomba area received substantial damage due to the floods. Repairs are expected to take a least three months before rail traffic can resume operation.

Re: Scotch Boxes

Another idea is to give your Scotch blocks a quick coat of bright yellow paint as well! The yellow paint makes them more visible to the eye and will lessens the chance of them not being seen when conducting a walk around, prior to moving rollingstock. We use cheap line marking paint in a pressure ...

Re: Wheel spin damage by E1331 OFS ???

I know of one train where both the driver and his assistant fell asleep, while the train was struggling up a grade.

I thought trains had measures in place that ensured a driver did not fall asleep in the first place. What happened to the dead mans handle??

The VCS, or Vigilance Control System ...

Re: Wheel spin damage by E1331 OFS ???

I wouldn't say that it happens regularly, but every now and then!

Generally happens to trains where the locomotive has had two or more traction motors cut-out and the loading has been unaltered to reflect the sudden reduction of tractive effort. Most driver's will pick up on any wheel slip early ...

Re: Australia: Zig Zag Railway, 1st Doubleheader,

Four DD17's survived into preservation. Three ended up at the Zig Zag Railway, being 1046, 1047 and 1049. 1049 is currently in operation.

The fourth one, 1051, is still owned by Queensland Railways (QR) and was restored back to operation in 1993. Rumour has it, that 1051's boiler is in poor ...

Queensland's Q150 Steam Train.

Hi All!

To celebrate the 150th birthday of the Australian state of Queensland, the government has had a steam train traveling through-out the state (see link below), visiting destinations that have not seen steam for many years!

Re: Class 39-200

Rob, won't be long before loco drivers become ground-based versions of airline pilots. Does the system dispense juice at requisite intervals from that bottle too?

Not up to the dispensing juice stage as yet! As for train drivers becoming a ground-based versions of airline pilots ... I'd be more ...
