What a motley crew!
But this lot had their hands full with the tracks just overflowing with amateur photographers jostling for positons.

Pretty tame compared to some that I've seen of this event. But it's always interesting to see the work from different people.

Truley, the BEST way to spend a Monday morning!
Dodging bullets at work, but I have managed to compile a small selection of pictures from the recent Friends of the Rail morning photo shoot held last Monday. Their ‘little fraulien’, the Class 19D, took center stage, flirting with her lacy steam ...

Re: 2650 Leaving Cullinan
And the Jacaranda's still show lavender pink after smokey has gone by. A great pic - but what I've come to expect from Mr. Mc.Carthy. I take it the Cullinan station is not far behind that curve, seeing that the cylinder cocks are still open.

Re: Magalies Branch - overgrown
When was this line closed then?
Somehow an abandonned signal that has been glowing red for years is symbolic.
I agree with Steve ... what a wasted opportunity and it's not like there was much infrastructure to pay for in terms of maintenance on that line.

Re: Queenstown locos in the news
Thanks for the welcome. (You too Chris.)
I was totally blindsided by the progress made with the FotR 15F 3117 and it occurred to me that if I had kept in touch on the forum, I would have known. I see the forum concept is working now. I was put off for quite a while with the multitude of topics and ...

Re: Queenstown locos in the news
Melancholic indeed.
The sight of rusty engines amongst tress might seem to be the stuff that whimsical paintings are made of, but the reality is that this heritage is being lost forever. There is a certain quality to the rust from being parked under tress though. Forgotten by those that care but ...

So the abandonned soldier still shines....
Has this signal ever been observed to change aspect?

Re: Magalies Branch - overgrown
Is the signal live, dead or blanked?
I used to go to Church camps in the area and the Magaliesburg branch ran across the bottom of the property. Seeing the 19D's (I think) running by with a day trip train was always a treat.
Major cash injection, I think, to get that line operating again.
